Bio
Marcia Harris is a General Engineer for the Mine Systems Safety Branch of the Pittsburgh Mining Research Division (PMRD) of NIOSH. Marcia's NIOSH experience include explosion and explosive research. As part of her explosive research, Marcia studied gas migration resulting from highly confined blasting. Marcia's explosion prevention research includes development of the coal dust explosibility meter, examination of the mine dust sampling procedure, method, and techniques, and examination of dust particle size effects on explosions. Prior to working for NIOSH, Marcia worked in the coal chemical industry for Koppers Industries and Aristech Chemical. Marcia is currently conducting investigations on the "Improving Mine Ventilation and Reducing Contaminant Exposure in Large-Opening Stone Mines" project and the "Development of engineering guidelines for shale gas wells influenced by longwall mining" project.
