Chris is a ventilation and refrigeration engineer with Hatch based in Mississauga Ontario. He is a Chemical Engineering graduate of University of Waterloo, and has been working exclusively with Hatch's Mine Ventilation and Refrigeration group for 10 years.
Chris has been heavily involved in calls to electrify underground mobile equipment fleets, including design and execution of multiple field heat and noise measurement studies for BEV equipment. Chris has presented outcomes from these tests around the world in partnership with the OEMs and Owners. Data collected has been instrumental in validating and optimizing design assumptions in electrified mining studies performed to date.
Chris is currently the Ventilation and Cooling lead for multiple ongoing studies and execution projects, including the Onaping Depth Project; a fully battery-electric 1.2 Mtpa copper-nickel mining operation planned in Sudbury and currently 6 years into execution. In this role, Chris has been responsible for simulation modelling, detailed engineering, equipment selection and contract preparation for over 3,500HP of primary underground booster fans, a 16 MW(T) underground refrigeration plant, ventilation on demand system and associated automated ventilation controls.
