Bio
Liming Yuan is a Lead Research General Engineer at Mining Systems Safety Branch of Pittsburgh Mining Research Division (PMRD), NIOSH. He has been working on mine fire and mine ventilation simulation research at NIOSH since 2002, serving as principal investigator for different research projects and team leader for the fire prevention team. His research at NIOSH focuses on mine fire prevention and control, including characterization of mine fires using real-time atmospheric monitoring data, engineering design of mine fire protection and atmospheric monitoring systems, spontaneous combustion of coals, equipment fire prevention and suppression, and smoke control and management in underground mine fires. Recently, he has been working on lithium-ion battery thermal runaway and battery fire suppression. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in power machinery engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, a Master of Engineering degree from University of Science and Technology of China, and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from University of Kentucky.
