20230618T1300 20230618T1700 America/Denver Workshop H - Part 1 & 2: Road Map toward DPM-free and Decarbonized Underground Mines

The short course will provide forum for discussion related to developing a road map toward sustainable DPM-free and decarbonized underground mines. The focus would be on the efforts of underground mining industry to reduce risks associated with exposure of workers to particulate matter and gases emitted by diesel-powered equipment. The course would address various issues related to control technologies and strategies available to underground mining industry including: (1) powering new vehicles and repowering existing vehicles with advanced engines, (2) retrofitting existing engines with exhaust aftertreatment devices, (3) establishing emissions assisted maintenance programs for advanced exhaust aftertreatment systems, (4) substituting petroleum based fuels with renewable fuels, (5) enclosing workers in the environmental enclosures with adequate filtration and pressurization systems, and (5) substituting diesel-powered vehicles with electric-powered vehicles. The course would provide insight into the ongoing pertinent research and implementation projects and trends around world.
