He has published and reviewed some papers in mining journals such as Mining, Minerals, and Exploration, SME’s Mining Engineering, CIM Journal, Mining Technology-Transactions of the Institution of Mining & Metallurgy Section A, and International Journal of Rock Mechanics & Mining Sciences as well as mining conferences such as North American Mine Ventilation Symposium, Australian Mine Ventilation Conference, and MassMin.
He is currently working on underground mine Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) projects. He has been involved in three projects about underground mine BEVs:
1. The EU funded Sustainable Intelligent Mining Systems – SIMS, which ran in 2017 – 2020 where he was involved in the field trials of the then largest underground mine BEVs in the world (Epiroc’s ST14 Battery LHD, MT42 Battery truck, and Boomer E2 jumbo rig) in Epiroc test mine in Kvarntorp, Sweden and Agnico Eagle’s Kittilä mine in Finland, In this project, Dr. Halim was working together with Epiroc and Agnico Eagle Finland.
2. The sequel of SIMS, Next Generation Carbon Neutral Pilots for Smart Intelligent Mining Systems – NEXGEN SIMS, also funded by the EU and is running in 2021 – 2024. Partners in this project are Epiroc, Agnico Eagle Finland, Boliden, K+S, KGHM, and BHP (formerly OZ Minerals).
3. Block Cave Ventilation, Electric Vehicles, and Zero Emission Mining, funded by Australian mining company BHP (formerly OZ Minerals), which is running in 2019 – 2024.
